3) Download and complete the Student Info Sheet. Return your responses via the Messages feature on Sakai.
4) Post a personal Introduction to the Introduce Yourself thread in the Forums that includes: your name, what you are studying at URI, a fun/weird/unique fact or anecdote about you, and a detailed description [see intro video above] of one of the electronic environments you most frequently visit. THEN respond to at least two of your classmates’ posts and comment on what you have in common, what surprises you, or what piques your curiosity.
Blog Exploration: Due 11:55 pm on Tuesday 9/15
1) Read Rebecca Blood’s essay on the history of blogs.
2) Write a post (200-300 words) to the Reading Responses Forum (under the “weblogs: a history and perspective” thread) in which you respond to this article. You can write about what surprised you, or did not surprise you, what you found interesting or wanted to learn more about, or what you agree or disagree with. Also, somewhere in this response please discuss your own history with blogging: have you ever regularly read a blog, have you ever written a blog, have you ever used a blog in previous classes, etc.
3) Choose two of the following blogs from the list below, spend a little time reading their posts, and then write a post (200-300 words) on the Reading Responses Forum (under the “Blog Comparison” thread), in which you compare and contrast the two blogs. What is similar or different about their content? What is similar or different about their design and layout? What can you tell about each of the blog’s audiences by the comments responding to posts? Which of these blogs would you be more likely to visit on a regular basis, why?
4) Respond to at least two of your classmates’ posts on both Forum Threads. Your response can be brief, and simply needs to address what you agree with, disagree with, or in any way relate to about the original post.

Blog as Clubhouse: Due 9/17 by 11:55 pm
1) Read Suzanne Stefenac’s essay on clubhouse blogs. Then watch Neil Pasricha’s TED Talk that gives the background story to his personal approach to blogging. Briefly peruse his blog, 1000 Awesome Things.
2) Write a 200-300 word post to the Reading Responses Forum (under the “blogs as clubhouses” topic) in which you respond to Stefenac’s essay, and Pasricha’s TED Talk and blog. Is Neil’s blog a clubhouse blog? Why or why not? You can also write about what surprised you, or did not surprise you, what you found interesting or wanted to learn more about, or what you agreed or disagreed with. Then, venture out on Google (or your preferred search engine) and find one good example of a clubhouse blog. Include the link to this blog in your post, along with a brief explanation of why you feel it qualifies as a “clubhouse blog”. Many options are found here: http://2015.bloggi.es/
3) Respond to at least two of your classmates’ posts on the “blogs as clubhouses” topic. Your response can be brief, and simply needs to state your response to the original poster’s example blog, and whether or not you agree that it is in fact a “clubhouse blog”.
4) On the Invention Activities Forum, under the Blog Ideas Topic, post a new thread that contains 4 of your own original ideas for a clubhouse blog topic that YOU could write about. These ideas should be specific enough to be considered clubhouse blogs, but broad enough that you’d be able to find lots of things to write about (so, for example, “Robots” would be too broad, “Humanoid entertainment robots with names that start with T” would be too specific, but “Japanese robotics” would be just right…).
5) Respond to at least two of your classmates’ posts on the “Blog Ideas” topic. Your response can be brief, and simply needs to state your response to the original poster’s blog ideas, and which ones you think would be the most interesting and appropriate.
